Joycelyn received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of the West Indies School of Nursing in Kingston, Jamaica. She went on to work in various hospital units, including the medical/surgical unit, emergency room, gynecology unit and pediatric unit, before attending the University of Texas in Arlington where she obtained a master’s degree in nursing with a focus in adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. Upon graduating and completing several clinical rotations and serving as a travel nurse in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Joycelyn worked as a nurse practitioner first in interventional cardiology and then in hematology-oncology. She has experience caring for patients who have hematologic and oncologic diseases.
